(NOV 8) WBAN had the
pleasure of speaking with Alex Love earlier this week---and we
wanted to give the latest update on what she is doing now.
I had the opportunity of watching her fight in the amateurs, in
Spokane, Washington when she was one of only 24 female
amateur boxers who could compete in the Olympic Trials event
that I attended at that time.
Love told WBAN the following:
"After the Olympic Trials in 2015, I finished my time with the
Army in August of 2017. I was fortunate to box in the
World Class Athlete Program for the military. I enjoyed
the end of my military career because I focused on my assigned
job in preparation of transitioning out of the military."
"At that time I had no idea what
I was going to do or if I was going to continue to box. I wanted
a job that would involve the community and was ever-changing. I
decided to apply to a few police departments in Colorado.
Westminster Police Department gave me the opportunity and put me
in the police academy."
"The following year came with
some hard times, I went through a divorce and one of my
beautiful amazing sisters, Amy, passed from terminal cancer. I
felt like I did not have control over anything. I am sure many
people can relate when it comes to divorce and cancer."
"Throughout the entire process,
my department, friends, and family were instrumental in their
support."
"I decided I needed to box again.
I boxed on and off for fun to keep me in shape for my job and I
was FOR SURE no longer a 106/112 lb woman. I
contacted one of my close friends, Nick, and told him I wanted
to turn professional."
"I turned pro in September of
2018 and I am now 3-0. My met new coach, Luke Caudillo who has
been nothing but supportive. Boxing helped me refocus, get
healthy, and find my purpose. I have fought locally, in the
Denver area to compliment my work schedule. I am looking forward
to taking more challenging fights and continuing my boxing
career because of my love for the sport."
"I am excited to begin working
with Brian Cohen. I felt a certain level of pride with every
version of myself that entered the ring to represent my country
or my community. First I was a civilian, then I was a soldier, a
veteran, and now a police officer. I feel immense pride in
representing myself as a strong woman for the community.
WBAN is excited for what brings in our thoughts, a great future
for Alex Love, and her police career. We will continue to
update boxing fans periodically on Alex's boxing career!
