(AUG 16) The 2018 AIBA Women’s & Men’s World Youth Championships begin next week in Budapest, Hungary and as promised we will bring you updates on the final days of the tournament. Here at WBAN we will concentrate on the leading young potential champions of the future perhaps at this year’s Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires or in the Olympics of Tokyo 2020 and/or Paris 2024.

Here though courtesy of our colleagues at AIBA Communications we introduce some of the pre-tournament favourites. We also hope to take a look at some of the other leading contenders later this week. At the time of writing this piece some 444 boxers.

“The AIBA Youth Women’s & Men’s World Boxing Championships begin in Budapest, Hungary on August 21, where the next generation of boxing talents will be competing in the 5,000-capacity Duna Arena in pursuit of Gold. With some of the world’s greatest boxing hopes on display, here are some of the names to watch in the women’s side of the draw.

Nitu (48 kg)

Indian southpaw Nitu was impressive last year as she won the Youth Women’s World Championships in Guwahati. Her results this year prove she is for a “back to back” win at the AIBA Youth World Championships.

Heaven Garcia (51 kg)

Having taken up boxing at the age of eight, USA’s Heaven Garcia heads to Hungary with an impressive record including a Junior and a Youth titles to her name. She will be a key figure in Budapest and she is definitely one to watch.

Jessica Triebelova (57 kg)

Jessica Triebelova is one of Slovakia’s biggest hopes at this year’s Youth World Championships. The two-time EUBC European Women’s Junior champion (2016 and 2017), won the EUBC European Youth Championships this year with some memorable performances.

Caroline Dubois (60 kg)

Just like Jessica Triebelova, England’s Caroline Dubois has twice taken the title of EUBC European Women’s Junior champion (2016 and 2017) and won the EUBC European Youth Championships this year. Her consistent results could be an advantage as she will step up in the ring in Hungary full of confidence.

Anastasia Shamonova (75 kg)

Russia’s Anastasia Shamonova produced some of the best results with both titles in Youth and Junior World Championships. Having also won two EUBC European Women’s Youth Championships in 2017 and 2018, she will lead the Russian team and will try to top the podium in Budapest”

So there you have it, tips from the AIBA’s team in Budapest. Do you have any leading contenders in YOUR country – if so tell us about them here on WBAN via our Social Media links .Remember too that from the opening day you can WATCH LIVE (Worldwide we are assured) all the day’s bouts via this link – operational from the opening ‘bell’.
