Want to become a boxing betting
expert?! Well, betting successfully on boxing bouts requires
plenty of research and hands-on experience.
Which of the two fighters is in her
prime?
You must figure out which of the two
boxers is in her prime and in what upcoming event she is
fighting in.
Often a boxer’s prime is associated with her age - not the
conventional age, but how many years she’s been boxing actively
in the ring. You need to figure out if she still has the speed?
accuracy? reflexes? timing? stamina? and other important things?
It’s more about how much of a reserve she has.
Is the hunger still there?
Find out which of the two fighters is hungrier for wins. The
hungrier the fighter is, the more determined she’ll be to dig
down deep and pull off a win for herself. You must remember that
many of these fighters emerge from rough and poor streets,
mostly in third world countries; they start off very well, but
as soon as they start bagging huge contracts, their hunger fades
away and their performance starts dipping down. You must factor
in all such changes while placing your bets.
Track record
Which of the two fighters has a better track record? We aren’t
just talking about the number of wins, losses and knockouts
here; but also which of the two has fought more number of
legitimate competitive opponents. Any fighter who has fought big
names and top-ranked champions in the past, even if she had lost
to them, would be weighed higher against someone who hasn’t
fought any big name as yet.
Injuries
You must also factor in
the injuries
of the two fighters under
consideration. A fighter who has been in many battles lately may
not be in the best physical shape for another bout.
Camp
The fighter with a better
training camp automatically holds an edge over the other. You
must figure which of the two fighters had hit her target weight
on time? Which one’s struggling or dominating in sparring? Have
there been any major developments in the fighter’s camp lately?
Fighting style and recent fights
You should also pay heed to
the
fighting style of the
boxer. It’s a common saying in boxing that ‘styles make fights.’
Some fighters get easily thrown off their plans when facing
someone highly aggressive or a slick counter puncher. You must
pay attention to the fighting style of both the boxers and
understand how they may play on the day of the clash. In
addition, the fighter who looked better during her last two to
three outings would obviously hold an edge over someone who
didn’t.
