(DEC 3) Its been only two years
since Austria-based German Nicole Wesner turned professional at
age 35, but she has wasted no time since, and won all her fights
to get in line for a shot at the vacant WBF Women's World
Lightweight title on Saturday December 6 in Vienna.
Undefeated at 8-0 (3), Wesner will face former world
title-challenger Gina Chamie (24) from Hungary, who’s only
defeat on an impressive 11-1 (5) record came in a shot at WBF
World Super Featherweight ruler Ramona Kuehne earlier this year
in Germany.
Despite limited experience in the sport, Wesner made her pro
debut in December 2012 against the tough Hana Horakova from the
Czech Republic, and won a clear unanimous decision. It was a
good start, as Horakova went on to challenge for several titles
and do well herself.
Since then its been full speed ahead, and in her most recent
outing, this past September, Wesner impressed with a clear-cut
decision over much younger, but much more experienced, former
European and WBF title-challenger Kremena Petkova from Bulgaria.
“When I put my mind to something, and I have a fire burning for
something, I will make it happen for myself”, Wesner, who is
highly educated, speaks six languages and gave up a well-paid
job to pursue her boxing dream, recently told German media in
the build-up to her first world championship fight.
“It has always been that way for me, and it is not a question of
age, it is a question of will!”
Since coming up short against Kuehne last March, after getting
off to an excellent 8-0 start to her pro career, Gina Chamie has
put together three victories and is now ready for a second
attempt at a world championship.
The Kuehne-setback came when she was forced to retire between
rounds due to an elbow injury, but the Budapest resident is now
fully healed and full of confidence that this time she will
succeed.
The Nicole Wesner vs. Gina Chamie WBF World Lightweight title
fight is a real fifty-fifty matchup between world class boxers,
and will be part of a huge Mixed Martial Arts Fight Night at the
Multiversum arena in Vienna.
