(SPOKANE,
WASH.) – 2014 USA Boxing Elite National Championships action
moved into day two at the HUB Sports Center on Tuesday night
with 35 bouts in preliminary competition. The women made their
tournament debut with matches in the bantamweight and light
welterweight classes while elite men in six different weight
divisions stepped through the ropes on Tuesday night.
It was
the heavier weights kicking off the night’s action in Spokane on
Tuesday and once again a Washington state boxer earned the first
victory of the session.
Dugan
Lawton
(Tacoma,
Wash.) won a split decision over
Xavier
Hayden
(Minneapolis, Minn.) in light heavyweight action to open the
day’s competition.
Several
familiar faces from the 2013 USA Boxing National Championships
fell in their tournament openers on Tuesday night. Featherweight

2014 USA
Boxing National Championships quarterfinal action will begin at
3 p.m. on Wednesday at the HUB Sports Center with all of the
bouts being contested in one combined session. All of
Wednesday’s winners will move on to semifinal round action on
Friday at the Northern Quest Resort and Casino.
