(AUG 23) In a notice dated August 5, AIBA posted on their website that they would not pursue a quota-neutral proposal with the IOC to increase women's categories for the Rio Games. [WBAN has petitioned this issue] In another surprise, AIBA added that the three women's Olympic weight categories might be changed for 2016.

The information that they had specifies that the decision of weight categories will be recommended by the "AIBA Technical & Rules Commission and with the approval of the AIBA Executive Committee.  This proposal will be submitted to the IOC soon.

WBAN would like to point out that there are NO women on the 16-member AIBA Technical & Rules Commission, nor are there women on the 26-member AIBA Executive Committee.

Also....AIBA does have a Women's Commission, which ironically has more than 20% representation by men members, but it appears that the AIBA Women's Commission is not included in the process of recommendations for the future of the sport, even as it directly affects women athletes.

A brief summary of the USA Boxing President Charles Butler: Butler was appointed, by AIBA, to the USA Boxing Board of Directors. He was recently selected by fellow Board members as its President. Of the EIGHT members on the USA Boxing Board, there are NO women. One of the two athlete representatives to the Board is a woman. Charles Butler is also a member of the AIBA Executive Committee and the AIBA Executive Committee Bureau. He is also the Chair of the AIBA Medical Commission.

C.K. Wu is near the end of his second term as President of AIBA where he has been campaigning for the Presidency of the IOC. The IOC election is scheduled for September 10 in Argentina.
