(DEC 13) Aleksandra Magdziak
Lopes, 146˝, Quincy, Massachusetts, via Gliwice, Poland,
established herself as a legitimate welterweight contender with
a unanimous decision victory over the hard-charging Adelita
Irizarry, 146˝, Hartford, Connecticut, in a busy eight round
affair.
Lopes, a rangy
ambush style, lead puncher started quickly by gliding in and out
of range landing accurately with a crisp two-fisted attack. The
slower footed Irizarry, an aggressive in-fighter who moves in a
straight line found herself a step behind throughout the first
five rounds struggling to achieve proper close-range positioning
to connect with her arsenal of power punches.
The constant
movement employed by Lopes continued to cause problems for
Irizarry over the entire length of the bout. Irizarry did her
best work in the sixth and seventh rounds when a tiring
opponent, in concert with Irizarry’s success at cutting down the
ring, enabled her to connect with power punches at close range.
They had little effect on Lopes who gave almost as well as she
received at close quarters. Lopes dominated the long-range
activities in each round rallying well at the end of the sixth
stanza.
In the end, Lopes
was awarded a unanimous decision 79-73, and 78-74 twice. This
author scored the bout 79-73 in favor of Lopes issuing only the
seventh round to Irizarry.
With the win, Lopes improves to (9-1, 1 KO), ranked #5 on Boxrec
in the welterweight division; Irizarry drops to (8-7, 2 KOs),
ranked #7 in Welterweight on Boxrec.
Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes is a mobile lead puncher possessing
good long-range defense, high punch volume, and an accurate
right-cross. She is worthy of her #5 world ranking after such an
impressive win over a quality opponent.
