Melissa Hernandez: Latest Update and Public Challenge to Oliveras!
by Sue TL Fox
January 27, 2013

(JAN 27)  WBAN has been on a mission this year,  to contact many of the female boxers to get the latest updates on what they are doing inside and outside the ring.

Now usually we know what multi-world champion Melissa "Huracan Shark" Hernandez is up too---but as of late she was just a little bit "too" low key, so WBAN went a huntin' for her to find out just what she has been up to!

Hernandez told WBAN the following:

"I've been trying to stay busy with these long lay offs between fights.
I'm living now in South Beach, Miami, Florida.

I'm training out of the famous 5th St. gym. I'm also training a young stable of male fighters with only one female that is set to have her pro debut soon.

I've decided to not train anymore 'womyn' in my weight classes that are ranked due to the lack of women wanting to fight me. [lol].

I've been keeping in probably the best shape of my whole career by doing all these races with all kinds of crazy obstacles.

The races have become a very good method for my training and to spice up the time between fights.  I've also taken up paddle boarding and biking.

My newly added methods for training have really done great for my love and conditioning of boxing.

I'm looking to pick up the pace in the ring this year I'm looking to keep fighting at 126 lb. But I'll always keep jumping from 122-140.

To add----I'm back to managing myself and handling all my own boxing biz. This year marks my decade in boxing.  It's been an awesome 10 years.  Six world titles and all the great names to record. I have nothing but to thank boxing and most of all
the WBAN."

Melissa's "Public Challenge" to Oliveras

Melissa, who holds the WBC Featherweight world title belt, responded to a recent press conference that Alejandra Oliveras, of Argentina attended.  Oliveras was saying in that conference her desire to fight for a WBC belt.

Melissa quickly jumped on that statement that Oliveras said about the belt, and she put out her own public challenge!

Melissa said, "Why you going to the WBC to ask to fight for the belt when you can challenge me. You want my belt come try. Yo soy boxeo femenino!!!!!!!"
