Amador Wins by Decision over Fuentes
Story by Lori Steinhorst
June 26, 2011

(JUNE 26) There are times when I feel just a bit worn out going to the fights. It seems that there has been an endless mess of mismatched women who enter the ring. I walk away sometimes wondering if the people that match these fights don’t think we are worthy of something better. I have walked away from some fights shaking my head and wondering why I even go any more.

And then out of nowhere…..I am blown away by two little 108 lb., women who fight with a heart and determination that reminds me of how much fun women’s boxing can be! This was the case on Friday night June 24th, at the Doubletree Hotel, in Ontario, California, when Ken Thompson from Thompson Boxing, for the first time, put a women’s boxing bout on his card…and it was electrifying!

Sindy Amador, a local Southern California favorite took on Christina Fuentes of Laredo, Texas in a four-round barnburner that had the crowd up out of their seats clapping and cheering. Although Amador took home the win by a unanimous decision….Fuentes had Amador in the fight of her life. It was like and action packed movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Even the judge I stood next to commented to himself…there’s no slowing those two down!

Whoever matched this fight was a genius. These two women left nothing to be desired….when the fight was over you were as out of breath as they were. You could feel their passion and energy….the only thing wrong with this fight….it was too short.

Both women are young in boxing. And although Amador is already known for bringing on the power and aggression in her brief career, there is no doubt that Fuentes will continue to set off fireworks with whoever she faces next in the ring. It is clear that both women have quality training and solid skills. I am excited about following the careers of these two little fireballs.

I was inspired, and I haven’t felt that for a while. I was so excited; I can’t even remember the scores! Thank you ladies; I remember now why I love this sport!
