(AUG 14) Tonight at the Santa Ana
Star Casino, in Bernalillo, New Mexico, Melissa "Huracan" Hernandez,
132, won an eight-round unanimous decision over Victoria "La
Reina de Guerra" Cisneros, 133. The two fought for the WIBA
[International] Lightweight Title. The fight was a non-stop action
exchange between the two. Final judges scores were 79-73,
80-72, and 80-72.
WBAN got an opportunity to speak briefly with Hernandez, and she
said after the fight that she knew the fight was going to be a great
fight and that Cisneros was one of her hardest fights. Cisneros who
is the larger fighter, stayed toe-to-toe with Hernandez throughout
the fight, and there were no knockdowns.
In the other women's bout between Thaddine Swift Eagle Johnson,
128, and Nancy Bonilla, 127½. Thaddine defeated Bonilla
with an eight round unanimous decision, and they were fighting for a
multitude of Intercontinental and international featherweight
belts in an eight rounder. According to boxrec - the WIBA
[International], GBU, WIBC, WIBU, and WPBA (have not heard of that
one). Final judges scores were all 80-70.
Team Johnson told WBAN, "Even
being dehydrated from having to lose three pounds overnight due
to a faulty scale that Thaddine about a week before the fight
and lack of sleep from driving back and fourth from Durango, Co.
to Albuquerque taking care of her mother who is wheelchair
bound. She managed to knock down Nancy Bonilla down in the 5th
round. Nancy's manager said the his boxer was set to fight at a
heavier weight against someone else but that bout fell through.
After fight the fight, Thaddine found out she was coming down
with Pneumonia."
