Sahin remains undefeated
by Uwe Betker
January 26, 2010

(JAN 26)  On January 23, 2010, Arena Boxpromotion staged its 5th boxing event in Cuxhaven, Germany. The only female boxing match of the evening showed the unbeaten minimumweight Özlem Sahin (7-0-1, KOs 3) from Ludwigsburg against Olga Harton (0-1-0) from Romania.

The fight was in the flyweight division. In her last fight against Janina Bentz (10.10.2009, L 4) Harton had lost rather controversially. The match was set for six rounds and Sahin started cautiously.

In the first round she defended the ring centre putting up a stable double cover and calmly studied her opponent. From time to time she did what was necessary to keep the attacking Harton at bay and secure the round for herself. In the second round Sahin got down to business. Harton attacked and Sahin countered.

She cornered Harton in the neutral corner and landed some solid left right combinations. Harton could not get out and Sahin continued her combinations. After the third combination the Belgian referee Daniel van der Wiele stopped the fight (TKO 2, 0:24). He later said:”I had to take her out. I saw in her eyes that she was passing out. Her eyes were rolling back into her head.”

Sahin said after the fight: “Of course I’m happy that I have won but I would have preferred a longer match. Our fight plan worked out beautifully. We had planned that I used the first round just to study her.

After all, the only thing I knew about her was that Janina Bentz had had quite some problems with her. And on the other hand I had to do enough to get her to respect me. In the second round she tried a bit more, which gave me my counter opportunities. Then I had her in the corner - and then the fight was over. It would have been nice to box longer and get a feeling for the longer distance. (C) Uwe Betker Photos by: Claudius Schell
