Luna and Ramirez Fight to Majority Draw
by Lori Steinhorst
September 12, 2009

(SEPT 12) In what was easily the fight of the night, Rhonda Luna, 131.5,  and Gloria Ramirez, 130,  brought the house down! The fight ended up in a majority draw, 58-56 57-57 57-57, and both women were extremely disappointed. Roy Englebrecht Promotions made it clear that a rematch was in order and in the making--and rightfully so.

Although Luna struggled a bit from time to time with Ramirez being a southpaw, there was no doubt that she had prepared for it and was relentless in her pursuit of Ramirez. Ramirez was right there, toe to toe....fearless.

There was an answer for each and every punch on both sides as they banged their way through each and every round, neither fighter giving an inch up to the other. The intensity and passion was in the face of both fighters and each heavy handed blow rarely missed it's mark.

This is what the face of women's boxing should look like. This was the all-out war that every boxing fan hopes to see when they lay down their money at an event. Luna and Ramirez are indeed the real deal and every ounce of fight they had was poured into six rounds without a minute of wasted time. The crowd support for this event was phenomenal and many fans waited outside the venue to greet the women after the fight and let them know that this was an amazing experience and congratulate them on making it an exciting show.

It has been a while since I have seen two women make such an impact on a crowd. I was inspired. Luna and Ramirez came to fight....neither one of them talked smack, complained about the purse, talked about deserving better treatment or who got more of what...they were here to fight and they did just that. Two fighters, warriors, stepping it up for the good of women's boxing and I was happy to be there to witness women's boxing at it's best!

Roy Englebrecht Promotions and San Manuel Bingo and Casino.....thanks for an outstanding promotion and a fabulous venue. Both have made a commitment to putting women's boxing on their cards to the delight of everyone!
