Torres and Cooper both Win Bouts by Decisions
June 14, 2009

(JUNE 14) Last night at the Centro Banamex, in Mexico City, Mexico, Ana Maria Torres retained her super flyweight title over Thailand's Usanakorn Kokietgym.in ten rounds of boxing. The final judges scores were 95-94, 98-92, 96-94.

According to Notifight.com, The Thai girl started well, making good use of her advantages of height and reach and, above all, her southpaw stance to take control of the fight in the early rounds.

But little by little Ana María took the measure of her awkward opponent, landing her best punches in the second half of the fight to obtain a unanimous decision, though certainly a close one, in her favour."

In a second women's bout on the undercard, Melinda Cooper, of Las Vegas, Nevada, won by a four-round unanimous decision. She fell short of KO'ing her opponent Miriam Avila in the third round as she had predicted at the weigh-in. The final judges scores were 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37.
