Why No July WBAN Rankings for the Three Heaviest Weights?
By Dee Williams
July 3, 2008

(JULY 3) Those of you who follow the WBAN boxer rankings may have noticed that there are no fighters ranked this month at light heavyweight, cruiserweight, or heavyweight - super middleweight (168 bs) is the heaviest weight class for which we have published any rankings for
July.

For a number of months now, there have been only four boxers (Kathy Rivers, Carlette Ewell, Vonda Ward, and Monica McGowan) ranked in these three weight classes combined, and only one or two fights a year occur that could produce changes in the boxer rankings.

As the results of head-to-head competition among the rankable boxers are at the heart of my computer ranking system, the ranking scores for these weight classes are much less robust than those for weight classes where there are many more fights between the rankable boxers.

Until the number of competitive fights in these three weight classes increases significantly, Sue and I have decided to not publish any rankings for them.

My computer program will still calculate ranking scores for light heavyweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight boxers each month, but until there are at least four boxers with scores over 250 in our system in a weight class, we will not publish scores and rankings for that weight class, just the list of "relevant fight results". (We will revisit this criterion as time goes by.)
