The German TV channel "Das Erste" (ARD)
will air a 45 minute documentary on Susianna Kentikian on 27th June
at 10:45 PM (CET). The film is titled "Die Starke Susi - Boxen zum
Überleben", which translates into "The Powerful Susi - Boxing for
Survival".
A film crew followed the Kentikian family over a 12-month period,
and shows scenes from the most important fights in Susianna's
career. Although Susianna's rise from an unknown Armenian girl to
one of the most popular female boxers in Germany is the main theme
of the documentary; it is also the story of a very close knit family
who has worked hard to get to where they are today.
They arrived as political refugees from
Armenia and spent years living in asylum centres, with the constant
fear of expulsion. On one occasion the family was actually arrested
by the immigration authorities and taken to the airport for
deportation. A last minute effort by Susianna's amateur boxing
trainer Frank Rieth and friends, prevented the deportation.
Don't miss this exceptional story about
a female boxer, who has not only won a world championship in the
ring, but also, together with her family, fought and worked hard to
convert a life in poverty and misery to a comfortable and dignified
life style.
