World and back-to back European lightweight champion Katie Taylor advanced from the preliminary rounds of the Ahmet Comet Cup in Turkey tonight (May 9th) after cruising past Elena Saveleva in Istanbul.

Twenty year old Taylor, from the St Fergal's club in Bray, stopped the Russian on the 15 point rule in round two (22-7)and will now meet an opponent to be confirmed in the latter stages of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Peter Brady (Poleglass) and Sean Duffy (Keady) bowed out of the Presidents Cup in Azerbaijani tonight at the preliminary round stage.

Brady was beaten by Great Britain's Rob Wright (27-8), and Duffy lost out 16-6 to Jalolbek Havizov from Uzbekistan.

A three man Irish senior team will be in the ring tomorrow (May 10th) competing in the Chemistry Cup Multi Nations in Halle eastern Germany.

Flyweight Conor Ahern, from the Baldoyle club in Dublin, had to pull out of the Chemistry Cup squad because of injury.

Along with Ireland, twelve Nations, four of which include Mongolia, Kazakhstan, France and the Ukraine, are competing at the Chemistry Cup which is considered one of the most competitive Multi Nations tournaments in the world.
