The Men’s and Women’s U.S. Championships to Combine for the First Time, March 13-19, 2005

Source:  Press Release

(JAN 5) COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – For the first time in the history of USA Boxing, the Men and Women’s U.S. Championships will be a combined event, March 13-19, 2005 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Over 300 of the nation’s top amateur boxers are expected to compete in the event in the Pikes Peak region.

While the Men’s U.S. Championships generally take place in March, the women’s event is moving from the summer months to the March event. The qualifying process will remain the same for both the men and women with the men having to go through local, state and regional tournaments and the women going through qualifying events to receive travel stipends. The event will remain open for women paying their open travel expenses.

The U.S. Championships is the premier event of the year for both the men and women, and the 2005 event will be ground-breaking as it is combined for the first time.

USA Boxing, as the national governing body for Olympic-style boxing, is the United States’ member organization of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) and a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). USA Boxing thanks its sponsors: Everlast, A2P, and Adidas for their continued support of USA Boxing and its athletes.
