(NOV 6) Universum has
posted an interview with Regina Halmich, but not an interview where
questions are asked of Halmich. The interview is more like a
pre-promo for the upcoming fight with Elena Reid that will take place on
December 3rd of this year. The interview is seven minutes long---broken
up by a few training sequences.
A BRIEF summary (not all) of the
interview (just in case you do not speak German) says the following.
Regina begins by referring to the controversy of the first Reid fight,
and admits she was not happy with the way things went, saying it was
certainly not one of her best fights. She is happy that the rematch is
now set to happen, because she thinks fairness in boxing is very
important. She promises it will be an improved Regina Halmich going into
this second bout, which will be a different fight than the first one.
She continues, that a fighter who has been on the top for 10 years
shouldn't have problems with a southpaw, even though it does call for an
increased concentration. However the American sparring partners have
made life difficult for her, or rather the lack of them.
She claims that
they are so patriotic and behind Elena Reid, that they do not want to
help her prepare for her fight. They have not been able to find a single american sparring partner, who was ready to come to Germany to spar with
her. However they have now been able to find good sparring partners
elsewhere. She goes on to tell, that she has only had 10 days rest after
her fight with Rosa, before she went back to prepare for the Reid fight.
This has some advantages, as she doesn't have to start from scratch
again and can. She is looking forward to fight in Magdeburg, where she
usually has a huge support, and she is confident that she will have that
again, no matter how the fight goes.
She is certain it will be a great
fight, maybe the best in the flyweight division ever. She also states,
that it will not be her last fight. Here retirement is not too far away,
but she promises that we will see her in the ring again in 2006.
She is also pleased, that so much is going on in women's boxing in
Germany at the moment, with a lot of new prospects on the way. Her
personal favorite to make it big is Alesia Graf, but there are also
other interesting fighters with very attractive boxing styles. She
mentions also the importance of making a good figure outside the ring.
It is important to be true to oneself, and not pretending to the public
to be other than what you are. That will always show. Simply stay true
to yourself and show the people what you can do. She finishes by
thanking her fans and promises to do her very best on 3rd December.
