Caples Responds to Team Ramnarine!
By Yvonne Caples
June 10, 2005

(JUN 10) On June 8th,  Team Ramnarine wrote an open letter in regards to her fight with  Yvonne Caples for the WIBA Mini-Flyweight World title on May 27th.  Letter

On June 10, WBAN received a response to that letter from Yvonne Caples, and she said the following: To Team Ramnarine,

You all are really something else...you are going to add insult to injury with that ridiculous letter. You have the nerve to try and twist things around to make it seem like Ria is being cheated!!! Poor Ria, all of Trinidad is out to get her! There is a big conspiracy going on with the media and the entire boxing community...Oh, wow! I DID have respect for you all because I certainly can't blame Ria for the judges decision, but really you all need to take the belt that was handed to you and leave it be. People at the fight were cheering wildly for Ria...as one boxing official said to me, "I wanted her (Ria) to win, but she didn't win." All of your supporters (who were all really wonderful people) at Ma Pau said the same thing (but oh, are they in on the conspiracy too?)

And as far as the BRUISE on my face (I emphasize bruise, because there was only one), that was from a headbutt (Ryan Wissow can back me up on that) which although certainly unintentional did cause a big welt under my right eye.

And as far as a rematch goes, I would love to fight Ria again on neutral territory, but I have no connections with any promoters here in the U.S. It's hard enough to even get a fight here much less get a promoter to put on a woman's title bout and fly someone in from another country. That is why I was stripped of my IFBA title (for non-defense)and that is why I go overseas all the time. Maybe someone out there with a sympathetic ear can convince a promoter to put on this fight, but I'm a realist, it probably won't happen...but if it was up to me, we would do the rematch tomorrow...to Team Ramnarine get over yourself already...people will forget the particulars of the fight and Ria will go down as the first woman from Trinidad to hold a world title--mission accomplished.

However, next time I do advise you do your homework a litte better when choosing Ria's opponent if you want to keep that belt. As for me, I have already moved on and am preparing for my next fight in North Korea on June 28th... for some sort of WBC elimination bout. Will I get a fair decision there without a knockout? Most likely not. Will I get the opportunity to participate in the sport I love and hone my skills as a fighter while getting paid well to do it? Yes...and at this point in my career that is good enough...I am not a victim here under any circumstance, I choose to fight because I believe that fighting quality matches even if it isn't on a level playing field helps the sport of women's boxing and allows me to improve my skills in the ring. But you team Ramnarine are not victims either, although you would like everybody to believe that.

The same media people who are supposedly out to get you had a positive article about Ria in the paper every day leading up to the fight. Most female fighters here in the U.S. would love to get the kind of media attention or the kind of sponsorship and support that Ria gets from her sponsor Ma Pau...so stop feeling sorry for yourself and stop dragging my name through the mud by crying conspiracy and twisting the truth.
