(MAR 7) “A
Ring of Their Own” returns on March 26 at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in
Laughlin, Nevada. Produced and promoted by Rock and Sock Productions, this
is the second in an ongoing series of all-women’s boxing events.
The main event features Elena “Baby Doll” Reid (16-1-5) vs. Alicia
Ashley in an eight round bantamweight fight. Reid is undefeated in her
last 20 fights, and once again is in tough with the Hector Roca
trained Ashley. Roca, of course, trained Hillary Swank for the Academy
Award winning movie “Million Dollar Baby”," and has trained numerous
world champions on the “male” side of the sport.
In the co-feature, Shelley Burton (6-1) looks to run her winning
streak to three as she takes on Akondayne Fountain (4-0) in a junior
middleweight six-rounder.
The show also marks the return to the U.S. of highly-touted Swedish amateur
champion Asa Sandell (2-0). Sandell will tackle her toughest
challenge to date as she steps up to six rounds to take on Yolanda
Swindell (3-2).
Rounding out the card will be a battle of “the undefeateds” as Jennie
Salinas (5-0) and Laura Norton (2-0) meet in a scheduled
four-round bantamweight fight, and light heavyweights Bose Ijoala
(0-1) and Liana Owens (1-2) will open the show in a scheduled
four-round bout.
Arnie “Tokyo” Rosenthal, Rock and Sock principal, said that “We’re
trying to out do our last show, which just might have been the best night of
women’s boxing ever assembled on one card.” His partner, Ken Weiss, chimed
in and said, “Keep an eye on Reid, Sandell, and Burton. They are on course
for major fights on our November Pay Per View special.”
Tickets are available at Harrah’s box office, or by phone at 702-298-4600. |
