On the Standard Media online website, they have reported that
the Ministry of Sports said that they lack confidence in the
men’s team picked to represent the country in the May Olympic
qualifiers in Morocco. In the article they quote Sports
Secretary Wilson Lagat saying that the team of 22 men excludes
boxers from Armed Forces and Administration Police and therefore
is not strong enough to represent the country.
According to this news source, Kenya will be sending a women’s
team to China next month for the Olympics qualifiers. The female
are-48kg: Christine Shisoka; 52kgs: Mary Wambui; 54kgs: Ruth
Odongo; 57kgs: Rebah Matanda; 60kgs: Mary Muthoni; 64kgs:
Cecilia Nyaranga; 69kgs: Durry Wanjiku and 75kgs: Elizabeth
Adhiambo (Nairobi).

Lagat has further said that he is urging the Amateur Boxing
Association (ABA) of Kenya to consider including boxers from the
two institutions before the trials or the Government may not
fund their travel to Morocco.
"We want only the best to go for the qualifiers to increase our
chances of qualifying and winning medals in the Olympic Games,"
said Lagat.
