Simona Galassi, born June 27, 1972, is
one of the top amateur boxers in Italy today. In 1994, Simona first began
training in kickboxing and Thai boxing. In Thai she accumulated a
24-3-3. In 1997, Simona won the WAKO PRO Italian kickboxing title against
Sonia De Biase, and in 1998, she won the WKA European Full-contact title.
In 1999 and 2000, Simona won and defended her WPKC European Kickboxing
title three times, and in 2001, she became the WPKC Thaiboxing World
Champion.
Simona participated in the Scranton Amateur tournament, in December of
2001, with only one boxing fight, and won the world championship and
the award as “Best Fighter” of that tournament. This success for Simona,
was a good motivator for the Italian Federation to continue to support the
women’s division.
The Italian Federation was able to have Simona attend the AIBA
tournaments, and she won gold medals in all of their tournaments that she
attended in 2002. The tournaments she participated in were some of the
following: Debrecem (Hungary); Torneo Italia (Italy); Hamet Komert
(Turkey); Witch Cup (Hungary); Second World Championship (Turkey); dual
match Italy vs Greece and Italy vs Poland. Simona’s ultimate goal is to be
in the Olympics.
When Simona is not boxing, she works as a trainer for Acqua Gym,
Thai/Kickboxing, Fit boxing, and sometimes she is a personal trainer.
Last March 2002, Simona earned her University degree in Sport Sciences.
Her hobbies include oriental massages, alternative medicine, and of
course, eating good food! Her favorite is chocolate cake, but she still
manages to keep her very fit 112 lb. frame!
Simona has been nominated for WBAN’s April 2003 Fighter of the
month----and has been added to

Galassi, ITA, dec. Tammy deLaforest, CAN, 20-3.
Womens Sports Foundation website: “Italian boxer Simona Galassi was named
the tournament’s top boxer, receiving the Outstanding Boxer Award for her
performance in the 112lbs. division. Galassi defeated Tammy deLaforest of
Canada to become the world champion after only boxing for four months. Her
secret, one shared by many of the Italian team members, is that she
competed as an elite martial artist for years, winning the European and
world titles in kickboxing before pulling on the boxing gloves (guantoni
rossi in Italian) and stepping into the ring.
