She started her boxing career in 2002, for Bob Lecoures’ Club Boxing (semi-amateur boxing) which is held in the north western states, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. After five seasons, DJ achieved a record of 22-6 and was the city champ for Billings for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Placing second in the regional tournaments for club boxing in 2006.

The referee stopped the fight 1:27 in the first round with Burton winning that fight.

In November of 2006, having no previous training experience, DJ started training with Rudy Meza of Dawg Pound boxing.

On April 6, 2007 Morrison was given another fight opportunity to fight Brooke Dierdorff 2-0, at the Par-A-Dice Casino in East Peoria, Illinois. Both fighters weighed in at 132 lbs. The referee stopped the fight 1:12 into the first round. Morrison had lost the fight falling to 0-2.
