BRITT VANBUSKIRK, a fighter from La Canada, California, made quite a splash in the Welterweight Division of Professional female boxing. She came on the scene in about 1979. Her second professional fight against the leading Japanese contender Hitomi Chikano resulted in a win when she KO’ed CHIKANO in the second round.

Britt Vanbuskirk caused an upset when she KO'd popular, Julie Mullen of Las Vegas, Nevada in 1979......

Vanburkirk had something about KO’ing fighters in the second round, because she made the headlines when she knocked out Julie Mullen, the Nevada State champion in the second round. MULLEN was ranked number three contender for the world title at the time.

Britt Vanbuskirk then went against Dulcie Lucas, and the fight was a TKO in the fifth round, when Lucas  did not come out for the sixth!  1979

VanBuskirk continued her winning streak when she went against hard-hitting Dulcie Lucas. The fight took place in Los Angeles, California to decide the California State championship. BRITT definitely was not the favored fighter in this match due to Lucas reputation. BRITT finished Lucas off in the fifth round, when she did not come out to fight the six round. BRITT added a TKO win to her  arsenal of success. (BOXING ARTICLE WOMEN’S PRO BOXING IN THE US)

BRITT who now lives in Illinois.  After she stopped boxing, to stay in shape she played on the women's rugby team.  She also did some boxing exhibitions in Chicago.  In 1994, she worked with Chris Kreuz for the Christy Martin fight.   She was Chris' corner for the fight.   In January, 1995, she opened her own gym, and developed exercise programs, trained male and female fighters and promoted boxing on an amateur level through USA boxing.  Her boxing club grew to 17 members, while the gym itself had over 100 members.

At the gym, BRITT worked with kids from age 10 to the seniors, age 50 and up.  BRITT is also in the process of attempting to organize a PAL (Police Activity League) program.  She is still active in boxing and she still trains fighters.  BRITT was a true pioneer in women's boxing, and is still going strong today!
