Kyla Barraza, age 14 (as of April 2009),
Is a 9th grade student in Denver, Colorado
and is in a advanced learning program and currently maintains a 3.53
GPA. Kyla’s favorite subjects are reading and literature. Her personal
goals are to graduate from high school and go to college.
Boxing Experience: Kyla is in her third year of boxing, with a
record of 11 wins and 5 loses. She recently won her 3rd Jr.
State Golden Gloves Title. Runner-up in 2008 National Ringside
Tourney & Regional Silver Gloves, and 2008 Jr. Olympic Champion.Kyla gives a lot of credit to her head
coach Stephen Blea and coaches C.C. Edwards, Ralph Gonzales, and
especially to her grandmother Mary for brining her to practice and
going to all her events as team mom, and especially her fellow
teammates that work-out and spar with her. Kyla has a lot love for
the Denver Police Brotherhood Boxing Program as well, they not only
help with the training but make sure that everyone does well in
school and they are always are looking for sponsors for trips &
equipment they are a 501c.

Boxing Goals: To win State & Regional Jr. Olympics and be in the
Nationals this year. Everything is going to be held in Colorado this
year and she wants all her family & friends to come and see her box.
Kyla’s long term goal is to hopefully represent women boxing as a
member of TEAM USA in the 2012 Olympic Games. (Her birthday present
will be that women will finally get to compete in the Olympics, the
news will be in August)
Kyla’s favorite boxers are Laila Ali, Oscar De La Hoya, Carrie Barry
and her cousin Joaquin Perez and would love to meet Laila and Oscar.
