(NOV 28) Last night at the Horseshoe Casino, in Hammond, Indiana, Kristin Gearhart, a junior welterweight from Chicago, Illinois,  won a four-round unanimous decision over Allanna Jones. This will be on a Hitz Boxing. [In the photo, former boxer Rita Figueroa stands next to Gearhart]

Jenny Lugo: Amateur Boxer on the Scene

(NOV 27) Earlier this week WBAN learned that Mike Bradburn has a female amateur boxer, Jenny Lugo he is training at the Camarillo Boxing and Fitness Center. Bradburn describe this Lugo by saying the following, "She is a Tough Cookie with Class!" He went on to briefly tell WBAN about Lugo, that she was a fourth year college student, a member of USA Boxing, a competitor in the sport, she has worked the corner at some bouts for Bradburn's team.....Full Story

(NOV 26) Caitlin ‘Tigger’ Trenholme returns to HUF GYM a National Champion and inspiration! Tuesday November 26, 2013–The best boxers showed up in Quebec City last week to earn their spot on the Canadian National team. Trenholme earned her spot on by way of two unanimous decision victories. Claudia Lopez Wins by a Close Split Decision

(NOV 26) On Saturday night, at the Estadio Pedro Estremador, San Carlos de Bariloche, Rio Negro, Argentina, Claudia Lopez, 128¼, won a close 10-round Split Decision against Betiana Patricia Vinas, 129½.  The fight was action-packed throughout the bout.  WBAN posted the video on the Fight Results Segment.  Go Here

ABAE agrees to implement AIBA Rules :Fears that top English boxers such as Olympic Gold medallist Nicola Adams, Natasha Jonas and Savannah Marshall (plus male colleagues) would be banned from major tournaments such as the 2014 European Championships, Commonwealth Games and indeed from all International competition were removed Sunday as the English Amateur Boxing Association (ABAE) agreed to implement AIBA Rules and Regulations in full. ...Full Story

(NOV 24)  Atlanta, GA-- “Boxing Chicks” featuring former WIBF champion Terri “The Boss” Moss and her female fighters will be shown Saturday, December 7 at the Shadow Box Film Festival in New York. “Boxing Chicks” was created by Tomorrow Pictures, and chronicles Terri training and interacting with her female fighters. “We're very excited to see the completion of “Boxing Chicks,” Terri said, “and to see it come to fruition. To be featured so quickly in such a specialized festival as the Shadow Box festival makes us even more hopeful about the future of the film, women's boxing and the message.” Go Here!

(NOV 22) Jill Morley's sizable stockpile of talents includes, among others, writer, film director, producer, college athlete, amateur boxer and fighter. And, no, the last two attributes are not redundant. Morley advocates and brings to her chosen causes the same ferocity and stick-to-it attitude that she carried to the New York Golden Gloves ring. (NOV 18) This last weekend I had the pleasure of spending quality time with Two-Time World Champion Jolene Blackshear-----all of 5 feet tall----and if it is the "right" doctor she has a documented 5' 1/4" record.    Blackshear said, "I like that doctor!"  I find it very interesting that I can spend massive amounts of time on the net to find out what is going on with the female boxers, and most the time I get it right and stories that go up on WBAN.  Full Story with past Photos

(NOV 15)  Tonight at the Five Starr Banquet, in Queens, New York, the card was cancelled, that would have featured Sonya Lamonakis  vs. Gwendolyn O'Neill.  They were to fight for a title in an eight rounder---but in a pre-fight medical examination yesterday, O'Neill failed to pass.  In a news article posted on the Recorder today, they reported that Lamonakis was devastated by the news but that she was told she would get another title fight against a different opponent mid- December.
