Terri Harper gets
majority draw versus Natasha Jonas at Matchroom Fight Camp in a
very tight bout – and many are already calling for the rematch
it was that good
A fight not for the faint-hearted, a battle of the WBC
super-featherweight champion from Yorkshire Terri Harper took on
the seasoned veteran in Natasha Jonas. Although all friendly and
professional before the bout had begun, it certainly wasn’t one
between the first and last bell ringing; in fact, it was a
women’s boxing classic blood bath which if we are honest could
have gone either way.
Lockdown has been a
difficult period for all, worsened by the fact of no live
sporting events which has shown different trends be formed due
to this.
Harper did keep her WBC world title due to the
majority draw – one judge in favour of
Harper, one in favour of Jonas and the other on the fence and
unable to decide so it goes to the current champion. Harper
would have been shocked with the way that Jonas came and brought
the fight to her, in fact we believe she thinks she was lucky to
have her hand raised at all at the end of the fight. In her post
fight interview, she went on to say: “I underestimated Natasha,
she was unbelievable tonight, we’ll definitely get the rematch
on!”
Jonas will be going away from the fight gutted that she hasn’t
won the title after such a great performance – she was down to
lose the fight easily, bookies had her at 10/1 to win. She
proved doubters wrong, and turned to her Team GB, Olympic,
Commonwealth, European and World Championship experience in what
nearly bullied Harper out of her title. Although it wasn’t a
robbery at all, just a very close fight, she will feel hard done
by that she’s pulled out a fight and game plan like that and not
come away with anything.
