(JULY 20) The World Boxing
Council, on behalf of President Mauricio Sulaiman, on July 18th,
world champion Yessica "Kika" Chavez and her challenger
Esmeralda "Joya" Moreno attended the weekly press meeting held
at WBC headquarters, just a few days from their match, which
will be held at the International Arena Oasis Cancun.
The Head of the prestigious Green
and Gold body said he was pleased with the levels achieved by
women's boxing not only in Mexico where it already leads on
major fight cards, but in the entire world where it has been
gaining ground.
The "Queen of Ecatepec" proudly
wore the belt that accredits her as the monarch of the Flyweight
division; and she said that this time it will be a different
story because at the first time they fought it was at the
beginning her career; "I was hoping to get Ava Knight for this
fight, but she no longer wanted to in the end and instead I face
a fighter that enhances my work, who is a great champion and a
great friend," she said.
"This fight has all the elements to be the fight of the year
because I do not fight for purses; I have never refused to fight
anybody and this time friendship is aside and we will leave
everything in the ring," she concluded.
Meanwhile, "Joya" who already knows what it is to be a world
champion said she feels at home in the WBC; "My fight is going
to be a real war and I will ensure people leave happy," she
said.
"On this occasion I have to be the challenger and it does not
scare me it is not the first time I get to paddle against the
current, it is a victory that I dedicate to my daughter," she
concluded safely.
Both came very elegant to the meeting with all the press headed
by Prof. Victor Cota Leon in the Main Auditorium Telmex Digital
Village in the Zocalo of Mexico City.
The match between Chavez and Moreno leads the evening of "Sabados
de Boxeo" organized by Promociones del Pueblo in association
with Boxing Cancun Pepe Gomez and supported by Cerveza Victoria,
Playboy Mexico, Oasis and Quequi Hotels Group; it will be
broadcast to millions of households through Televisa Deportes
