(MAY 22)  Saturday May 21, 2016,  saw three new World Boxing Federation (WBF) Champions crowned in front of sizable crowds and massive TV audiences, as entertaining title fights took place as far apart as Jinju in South Korea and Balaruc les Bains in France.

On a show promoted by Jinju Sanrok Promotion, undefeated South Korean super star Hyun-Mi Choi won the vacant WBF Womens World Super Featherweight title with a clear unanimous decision over extremely game former world champion Unathi Myekeni from South Africa.

Already the reigning WBA world champion, Choi took charge from the beginning and continuously threw hard combinations at her foe, looking for the knockout, but Myekeni was very resilient and never gave up on her chance to win the fight.

After ten rounds of boxing there could be only one winner, and judges Man-Deuk Kwon, Darryl Ribbink and Kyung-Han Lee scored it 98-93, 99-92 and 100-91 respectively for Choi, who improved her impressive professional record to 13-0-1 (4). Myekeni falls to 10-3-1 (4).

Also in Jinju, the very underrated Moon Chul Suh became the new WBF Asia Pacific Super Bantamweight champion in conclusive fashion when he destroyed southpaw Anukul Promkamsaw from Thailand in the second round to lift the vacant title.

While the first round was fairly quiet and even, Suh came out aggressively in the second and floored Promkamsaw three times to force the stoppage from South African referee Darryl Ribbink, much to the delight of the many fans in attendance.

The new WBF Asia Pacifc Super Bantamweight Champion improved his rather misleading record to 9-7-3 (4), while Promkamsaw drops to 15-9 (7).

In Balaruc les Bains, France, European champion and home town favorite Leatitia Arzalier was on top of her game as she beat Brazilian Aline de Cassia Scaranello by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBF Womens World Strawweight title.

32-year-old Arzalier, now 11-1 (3), threw and landed with the harder punches throughout, and was very effective in avoiding the attacks from “La Poderosa” Scaranello (27), who comes up short in her second world title-challenge and travels back to Sao Paolo with a 9-4 (7) ledger.

Judges Brahim Ait Aadi and Alexander Plumanns both scored the fight 97-93, while judge Stephane Nicolo saw it as a land-slide victory for Arzalier and had it 100 – 90. The fight headlined a show at the Halle des Sports Louis Marty promoted by Frederic Perez.
