"Shotgun" Shannon O'Connell's Quest
August 27, 2015

(AUG 27)  "Shotgun" Shannon O'Connell's Quest to capture the WBC Female Silver Featherweight title and close 2015 with two "W's" begins on September 11, 2015, in Toronto, Canada on the PBC under card of the Adonis Stevenson vs Tommy Karpency WBC Light Heavyweight title bout where she faces Canada's Sandy Tsagouris (11-3-0), in a non-title 8 round bout.

Then on November 21, 2015, at the Bendigo Stadium, in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia in a boxing event hosted by Hosking Promotions "Shotgun" O'Connell is scheduled to face a young, but seasoned fighter in Dayana "El Diamanté" Cordero (13-5-1), for the vacant WBC Female Silver Featherweight title (10 x 2).

O'Connell tells WBAN that she's on a mission. "I'm on a Mission! Right off the plane I want to train (says Shannon laughing), but we have an itinerary which has us at Gleason's for a couple of days of training. Also, our advisor Eddie Montalvo has arranged for me to meet and train alongside Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillen who fights the day after I do also on a PBC fight card against my Countryman Michael Zerafa, so yeah, I'm blown away by all of this," she said.

Asked about her visit to The Big Apple and her anticipation on her upcoming fight, Shannon said; "Going to New York City is a dream come true, but to visit the Famous Gleason's Gym together with my Promoter Lynden Hosking and my teammates and meet Mr. Bruce Silverglade, Heather Hardy, Alicia Ashley, Melissa St. Vil, Ronica Jeffrey, Keisha McLeod, and potentially the Serrano sisters Cindy and Amanda, and Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillen, makes my dream even more surreal."

Shannon O'Connell continues; "This bout against Sandy Tsagouris could've been a World title bout, but I will take an 8 round bout against an experienced fighter any day. I know I have a bout set for November 21st too, but right now my focus is so tuned on the September 11th bout. I'm like looking at my world from above taking it all in," Shannon said.

Knowing all of this and the direction this is going for you do you feel women's boxing will be getting more exposure in the U.S?

(Shannon); "Well, from what I'm seeing it looks that way. I also heard that legendary world boxing champion Shane Mosley is supporting our sport and that he's signed some female fighters. It’s really exciting for women’s boxing. My team, Hosking Promotions and Mr. Montalvo are working towards bringing women's boxing onto major fight cards in the U.S., on a continuos basis. Maybe Mosley Promotions can reach out to Mr. Montalvo and Lynden and join forces. I'm sure that they have the withal to make it happen."

Shannon continues; "The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind. I want to thank my Promoter/Manager Lynden Hosking for bringing me on board with Hosking Promotions, my team for believing in me, and Mr. Montalvo for his hard work."

"I want to add that my team and I will be live streaming our trip to NYC, including video diaries of our training and highlights in Toronto live via Periscope. So I'm excited to be able to keep my people back home posted on my journey," Shannon added.

She continues; "I really appreciate WBAN and Sue Fox for the many years it has given an avenue and a forum to female fighters like myself. WBAN is an avenue to the annals of Women's Boxing, and that's special to be able to have my name among so many fighters from around the world."

Both Sandy and Shannon know what it is to be in world title bouts. And because of their experience and unique styles of fighting this match up is as even as any legitimate prize fight can ever be and, it is set to be an action-packed one.

WBAN will keeping our readers informed with any new details, photos and videos we receive.
