(OCT 4) (OXNARD, CALIF.) – The junior and youth competitors took center stage on Friday at the 2014 National PAL Championships in Oxnard, Calif., with 37 final round bouts in the younger age divisions. Boxers ranging in age from 11 to 18 competed in the two rings at the Oxnard PAL Gym with all of the winners claiming National PAL Championships.

2014 Junior and Youth Open champion Bryan Lua (Indio, Calif.) claimed another national title with a victory over Evan Sanchez (Fresno, Calif.) in the junior lightweight division championship bout.  Reigning Junior Olympic champion Andrea Medina (Bonita, Calif.) took a second national championship as well in the women’s junior featherweight division. Medina defeated April Fonseca to win 2014 National PAL Championships gold.

Multiple members of USA Boxing’s national teams took the ring on Friday night in Oxnard with two of the night’s highlight bouts taking place in the youth division. 2013 Junior World Champion Caitlin Orosco (Anaheim, Calif.) faced off with 2013 Youth World Championships bronze medalist Marisol Lopez (Stratford, Calif.) in the youth women’s flyweight contest. Lopez took the victory in the match-up to claim the 2014 National PAL Championships title.

Hector Tanajara (San Antonio, Texas) avenged his final round loss from the 2014 Junior and Youth Open with a victory over Carlos Balderas (Santa Maria, Calif.) in the youth lightweight finale. 2014 Junior and Youth Open champion Javier Estrada (Palmdale, Calif.) claimed victory in the middleweight division, defeating Lawrence King (Adelanto, Calif.).

All of the final round bouts in the men’s and women’s elite division will take place on Saturday at the Oxnard PAL Gym.
