It’s a “Knock Out” Event - Lady Icons in the Boxing World!

(OCT 27) On November 9, 2013, the Golden State Boxers Association [GSBA] will present "Ladies First" Hall of Fame Awards honoring eight women, both prominent boxers and females outside the ring who have had a significant impact in the world of boxing with California connections to the sport.

Highlighted in Ring Magazine, in the top ten most significant female boxers of all time, we are excited to honor Sue “Tiger Lily” Fox who is one of the most important journalists for women’s boxing. Her contributions as both a pioneer prizefighter and historian cannot be measured. She remains an important figure in female professional boxing. Her world wide website www.wban.com has kept the world of boxing in touch with the news of female boxers. Sue will be traveling from Portland, Oregon to join us for this prestigious Hall of Fame Awards Event.

Our program will bring to the stage the “Amazing”
Layla McCarter  who is considered the most skillful boxer in the game today. She has captured six World Champion Titles in four weight divisions.

 Another one of the most skillful female boxers of all time,
Lucia "Dutch Destroyer" Rijker will be honored. Lucia appeared with Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank in the Academy Award-winning film Million Dollar Baby. Layla and Lucia are also listed in the top ten by Ring Magazine.

Mia St. John, WBC International Boxing Champion of the World of has fought all over the world accumulating an unheard of boxing record of nearly 60 pro fights. A three time international boxing champion Mia captured the WBC Super Welter Weight Championship of the World in a long awaited rematch with Christy Martin. Today Mia speaks in schools and juvenile halls on the importance of education and overcoming hardship. Currently, her book “Knock Out Workout” and a fitness dvd is in stores now nationwide.

Gwen Adair, who opened the doors for women in the world of boxing, was professional boxing’s only female referee and the first woman to referee a world title fight. Her only interest was in following her heart “I love boxing” and never set out to be a pioneer. Our salute to Gwen for her amazing and ongoing career. Golden State Boxers Association is very proud to honor along Gwen with our other great female icons of boxing.

Another uprising star in the world of boxing journalism is Michele Chong. Michele, who has been involved in the sport of boxing for over a decade with her “Chatter Box” column covering a variety of both professional and amateur boxing, one on one interviews, recaps of fight events, and much more on her worldwide website myboxingfans.com Michele is a tremendously talented writer with a true love for the sport and its athletes.Golden State Boxers Association welcomes Michele to our “Hall of Fame”.

Jacquie Richardson, worked with Alex “The Bronx Bomber” to launch the Retired Boxers Foundation in 1998 incorporating as an IRS 501C charitable organization in 2000. Over the past 11 years, The Retired Boxers Foundation has helped more than 500 retired boxers with Jacquie’s expertise and hard work, as she continues to help retired professional boxers in the transition from their glorious days in the ring, to a dignified retirement. Jacquie also works for the Ventura County District Attorney coordinating investigations of child molestation and sexual assault. Jacquie certainly has made an impact on the much needed attention for the retired boxers and in her community for victims of domestic violence.

Carol Steindler, became co-owner and manager of the Main Street Gym as well as the first woman to manage a gym when her father, the famous Howie Steindler was brutally murdered. Carol rose to the occasion amid the devastating loss of her father, saving the Main Street Gym and its legacy, that of being known as the gym in Southern California where almost all of visiting champions and fighters trained when in town. Currently, Carol is very busy with the story of her father’s murder and investigation being produced into a film. Another great woman in the world of boxing, the GSBA is proud to honor Carol with the prestigious GSBA Hall of Fame Award.

, Armando Muniz, Bobby Chacon, Danny Valdez, Paul Banke, John Montes, Frank Duarte, the Ruelas Brothers, Art Frias, Rudolpho Gonzalez, Jesus Pimental and more.
