Hammer, Knezevic, Shala Wins WBF Titles
Source: WBF

(MAY 5) Three World Boxing Federation titles got new owners on Saturday night (May 4), as Christina Hammer dethroned Zita Zatyko for the WBF Women’s World Super Middleweight crown on the big Klitschko vs. Pianeta show in Mannheim, Germany, and Gogi Knezevic and Timy Shala won Intercontinental titles in Austria.

Hammer, also the current WBF World Middleweight Champion, put on a dominant performance and used her superior boxing skills to outbox her heavier opponent. In round four Hammer scored a knockdown, and only the bell saved the visibly hurt, but brave, Hungarian.

In the following rounds Hammer went on the attack, but Zatyko weathered the storm and after ten rounds of top-class boxing, judges Patricia Morse Jarman, Zoltan Enyedi and Oliver Brien scored the fight 100-89, 99-90 and 99-90 all in favor of the new champion.

22-year-old Hammer improved her record to 14-0 (7), while Zatyko lost for the first time in seventeen professional fights and drops to 15-1-1 (11). The fight was promoted by SES Boxing in cooperation with K2 Promotions.

600 kilometers away in Austria, Gogi Knezevic delighted his hometown fans at the Multiversum arena in Vienna-suburb Schwechat, by narrowly but unanimously decisioning Hungarian veteran Jozsef Matolcsi to win the vacant WBF Intercontinental Middleweight title.

Knezevic had the advantage of speed over his older and more experienced opponent, and used it well at times along with his combination-punching. Matolcsi tried his best, and his grit and determination won him some of the close rounds along the way.

The three judges at ringside turned in scores of 115-114, 114-113 and a much too wide 117-112, all for Knezevic, who is now 25-5-1 (12) in the professional ranks. Matolcsi, who once challenged for the WBF World Welterweight title, falls to 32-20-1 (20).

In the evenings co-feature, unbeaten Timy Shala put in a good performance to pass his careers biggest test and win the WBF Intercontinental Light Heavyweight title by edging Tomas Adamek from the Czech Republic.

Shala took his pro ledger to 16-0 (6), and Adamek is now 19-8-1 (7). The show was promoted by BoxTeam Vienna, who put on a well-organized and entertaining event for the spectators in attendance.
