Anna Laura Esteche KO’s Garino, Set to Challenge for WBO Strap
By Dave McKee
April 28, 2012

(APR 28) Last night at the Ce.De.M. N° 2, Caseros, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Anna Laura Esteche improved her record to (6-1, 2 KO) with a brutal once punch knockout of Betina Gabriela Garino , (now 15-13-2, 2 KO). Both women hail from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Esteche took immediate control of the fight with a systematic jab. Garino’s first attempt to press the action saw her eating a left hook. Less than a minute into the first round Esteche retreated to a corner, allowing Garino to again try an aggressive approach. Again Esteche answered, this time with a right hook. Stunned, Garino hit the canvas. She rose quickly, but was clearly too seriously wobbled to continue. The fight was stopped at 0:49 of the first.

Esteche is now set to challenge Enis Pacheco (9-1, 7 KO) for the WBO lightweight title. They meet June 15 at Coliseo Cubierto Elías Chegwin, Barranquilla, Colombia. Pacheco will be defending her title for the first time following a close unanimous decision over Duda Yankovich. Pacheco had gone the distance and lost by a wide margin to Fernanda Soledad Alegre (then 10-1-1, 5 KO)in her challenge for the WBO light welterweight title.

Despite the difficulty of Pacheco’s recent outings, Esteche has less than two months to prepare for a title contest that will likely be her most difficult challenge to date.
