(JUNE 8) Today the final press conference for the “Duke City Showdown” boxing event took place.  The conference was held at the Legends Theatre, at the Route 66 Casino Hotel, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The main event will feature a rematch between Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm vs. Victoria “la Reina” Cisneros in a 10- round welterweight bout, that will be televised on TELEFUTURA on Friday night (June 10th).

The first boxers to step up to the podium were the female boxers, Diane Torres and Brandi Montoya.  Torres, making her pro debut and Brandi Montoya, 0-1, both from Albuquerque, New Mexico, made it brief at the podium, mostly giving thanks to everyone involved in making it happen for them to be on the card.  Both boxers were gracious towards each other.

The next boxer at the podium, Antonio Garcia, pro debut, from Santa Fe, New Mexico, was “short and sweet” in his delivery. Garcia said it was an “honor” to get “paid” for something you love. And with a slight pause, he added, “Ah…that’s about it.”

Promoter Lenny Fresquez made a quick follow-up comment as Garcia went to sit down, saying,  “he gets right to the point.” At which time the crowd gave a slight chuckle.

Leading up to the main event boxers Victoria Cisneros and Holly Holm, others at the podium included, Martin Gonzales, making his pro debut, fighting out of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Willie Villanueva, 9-3- (2KO), of Albuquerque; David Proa, 7-2- (8KO), of Albuquerque; Fidel Maldonado, 10-0 (9KO), of Albuquerque; Joaquin Zamora, 18-3-1 (12KO), , Elco “the Animal” Garcia, 24-7 (12KO), from Ignacio, Colorado.

MAIN EVENT ON THE PODIUM:

First to say a few words was Victoria Cisneros trainer and manager, Robert Padilla. Padilla gave an honorable RIP mentioned of retired world champion Genaro Hernandez, who passed away at the age of 45, yesterday after having a long illness with Cancer. Padilla talked about Cisneros being rated in many organizations in the top ten and that records mean nothing.

Mike Winkeljohn, Holly's trainer and manager,  then talked about the venue, and made some brief comments about Cisneros being much better than her record and that she has fought the best.  Winkeljohn acknowledged how tough she was, but added at the end,   “be careful what you wish for” as Holly has trained hard for the rematch.

Victoria Cisneros then took center stage.   She was respectful toward Holm, but very serious in nature about the fight.  She began by giving many thanks to all, that included her mom and her two sons.  She said, that she could care less what people have to say.  She also added that it is going to be a good show and said that she wanted people to buy tickets---that she has been training hard.

Holly Holm was the last to speak at the conference. Holm was humble and she talked about the fight being a rematch, and that people that she has fought that fougth her again they always came back stronger.  Holm said she was focused for this fight---and she thanks everyone down to her aerobics class, who bought tickets.

Tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in the Legends Theatre, the weigh-in will be held. It is open to the public.   It was great visiting many of the boxing folks who came to the press conference.

I will try to post the exact times that the fight will take place on Telefutura and put those times up by Friday.
