Molly McConnell vs Kita Watkins Clash for WIBF Title
by Katherine Dunn
September 19, 2010

Hard punching Molly McConnell (10-2, 5 KOs) of Portland, Oregon has fought for it in and out of the ring and finally gets her crack at a title on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010. McConnell meets canny boxer Kita Watkins (5-7, 1 KO) of Camden, Arkansas in a ten round main event for the WIBF and GBU 143 lb Championship.

The 6 bout show starts at 7 p.m. in Tacoma, Washington at the Tacoma Soccer Center, 2610 Bay Street East. Prices run: $100 or $75 for Ringside, $50 at the field Level, and $25 for General admission. Tickets can be purchased online at CintronFizerPromotions.com

The WIBF sanctioning body offered McConnell a title fight quite a while ago, but McConnell says she pitched the notion to several promoters without getting a bite. McConnell figured the $4,000 sanctioning fee for the two titles might be an issue so she lined up a sponsor to pay the sanctioning fee. Promoter Joe Cintron jumped at the idea. The uncle of pro fighter Kermit Cintron, Joe promoted previously in Auburn, WA in partnership with Greg Haugen.

As if McConnell needed any more motivation, she will end up fighting for free because the sponsor dropped out and she ended up paying the sanctioning fee herself. Whatever it takes, McConnell is going for it.

Her original opponent found reasons to refuse the match, so McConnell meets eager Kita Watkins who wants another chance after McConnell stopped her in the third round of their first fight in 2007.

McConnell says she expects a tough fight. Watkins didn’t have much experience when they first fought, but she’s improved a lot.

The 5 undercard bouts are all scheduled for four rounds.

Cruiserweights-- Joe Broken Rope (2-0) of Billings, MT vs Yasnay Consuegra (3-0) of Miami, FL.

Heavyweights—Silvester Barron (1-0) of Anacortes, WA vs Samuel Lee (debut) of Ft. Irwin, CA.

141 lbs—Virgil Green (debut) of Vancouver, WA vs Corey Sommerville (1-5) of Covington, WA.

160 lbs—Jesus Vallejo (3-2) of Spokane, WA vs Innocente Fiz (3-0) of Miami, FL.

126 lbs—Rene Gomez (debut) of Connell, WA vs Mike Cross of Vancouver, WA.
