Taylor Wins in St. Petersburg

(JULY 8) Katie Taylor beat China's Dong Cheng 10-2 at the Sports Palace in St Petersburg, Russia tonight to advance to the quarter finals of an International Box-Off.  The bout was a repeat of last November's AIBA World lightweight final which Taylor won 13-2 in Ningbo City, China. Taylor will now meet Ayzanet Gadzhieva of Russia in tomorrows quarter final.

The Bray woman beat Gadzhieva 20-2 in the semi finals of the AIBA World Championships in Ningbo City.

Menwhile, Taylor claimed the Irish Times/Irish Sports Council Sportswoman of the month award for June it was announced today.

July 8th: Last 16
60Kg: Katie Taylor (Ireland) beat Dong Cheng (China) 10-2

July 9th: Quarter Final
