Women's EU Championships

(JUNE 24) Defending champion Katie Taylor has received a bye into the quarter finals of the 4th women's European Union Championships in Pazardjik, Bulgaria.

Taylor, the reigning World and European champion and AIBA 2008 World female boxer of the year, will meet Italian lightweight Cordio Giacoma in the last eight tomorrow (June 25th).

The winner of that bout will meet either Cindy Orain of France or Erkan Melek of Turkey in Fridays semi final with the victor advancing to face either Denitza Eliseevan of Bulgaria or Aeksandra Paczka of Poland in Saturdays 60Kg final.

Taylor arrived in Bulgaria on Monday ahead of the Championships along with her coach and dad Peter Taylor and coach Pat Ryan.

The Bray lightweight, who is defending the title she won in Liverpool last year, is the only Irish boxer at the 4th women's European Union Championships.

The start times will be confirmed shortly.
