(JUNE 14) Early Fireworks at the South Point Hotel & Casino American Boxing Promotions. This Fourth of July weekend the fireworks will start early when American Boxing Promotions hold their inaugural card on Friday, July 3 at the South Point Hotel & Casino.

The main event will feature one of the biggest rematches in the history of women’s boxing. WBA and GBU lightweight champion of the world and Las Vegas resident Layla McCarter will defend her belts against Tokyo, Japan’s Fujin Raika in a rematch that’s been seven years in the making.

In April of 2002, McCarter traveled to Tokyo Japan and won a majority 8-round decision over the then undefeated Raika. McCarter would go on to win four world titles while Raika vowed to exact revenge.

Raika did capture the WIBA’s version of the world title at Featherweight in 2002 and has twice lost close decisions for the WBC title at Jr. Lightweight and Lightweight. She is currently rated #5 by the WBA.

Raika requested that the rematch take place in McCarter’s hometown of Las Vegas since McCarter had originally defeated her in her hometown of Tokyo. McCarter has vowed to keep the title here in America on the weekend that our nation celebrates its independence.

The main event headlines an outstanding card put together by American Boxing Promotions, promoter Anthony LaMonica and matchmaker Luis Tapia. The card will also feature two hard-punching contenders from Brazil. In the co-main event Sau Paolo’s Carlos Nascimento puts his 23-1 record on the line against Las Vegas’s own Juan Pablo Montes De Oca in a ten-round Jr. Middleweight contest. Nascimento has knocked out 20 of his 24 opponents and his lone defeat came by decision to undefeated WBO Champion Sergiy Dzinziruk in a bid for the title in Germany back in May of 2007. Montes de Oca should provide a stern test as he’s faced some of the biggest names in the division, like Vanes Martyrosian, Jose Celaya and Antonio Diaz.

Also featured on the card will be Antonio Mesquita who now resides in Las Vegas. He will put his 34-1 record on the line against Mexico City’s Hugo Correa, winner of the Mexican reality show “La Cintura de Oro.” Mesquita’s an outstanding puncher as well, with 26 KO’s to his credit.

Other local fighters will be featured as well. Bantamweight David Springer will take on Mario Gonzalez.

Luis Gordon will take on Raul Duhart in a four-round Jr. Welterweight contest. Popular heavyweight Alvaro Morales will battle Alaskan Kelly Lawson and in a rematch of a very entertaining contest from May of this year Omar Valencia will battle Los Angeles’s “El Torito” Jose Pacheco.

Their battle on the undercard of Chad Dawson vs. Antonio Tarver ended in a draw and left the fans on their feet. As a special attraction, Las Vegas resident Michelle Gutierrez will be in action for the second time in her professional career.

She is regarded as a prospect in the flyweight division. Tickets will begin at only $20 and are available at the South Point Casino box office. We cordially invite you to celebrate Independence Day weekend with some in-ring fireworks.

Tickets for Fireworks “The Rematch” start at $20.00 and are available at the South Point Hotel Casino Box Office. For more information please call (702) 797-8055.
