7th Annual Ringside-Comcast Augusta International  Junior Boys-Girls Summer Boxing Classic
March 5, 2008

(MAR 5) Augusta, Georgia to host the 7th Annual Ringside/COMCAST Augusta International Junior Boys/ Girls Summer Boxing Classic, presented by COMCAST. Tom Moraetes, the Augusta Boxing Club along with the City of Augusta and the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department have combined efforts to host this tournament June 25-27, 2009 at the May Park Community Center 622 4th Street. With the support from the largest supplier in boxing equipment in the world, Ringside, Inc. and the additional sponsorship from COMCAST, PCS Nitrogen, Dr Robert Gambrell and Sports Medicine Associates of Augusta, Pollack Company, Georgia Chiropractic and Wellness Center and the Clarion Suites Inn of Augusta. The Augusta Boxing Club looks to see hundreds of young boxers from all across the country participating again this year.

In the past the tournament was a “National” Championship with entries from over 30 states each year. With the addition of the Canadian Jr. Boxers, this year will be an International Championship. Entries from other countries are also being considered for entry.

Tom Moraetes tells us,  “This tournament was a great success for the past six years and we appreciate the opportunity for young athletes to show their skills and what better place than Augusta”. Tom Beck, Director of the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department has continually supported the sport of amateur boxing and sees this as “a great opportunity for our youth”. Bill Botham of COMCST says “we are proud of our commitment and involvement with the amateur youth boxing program here in Augusta and look forward to another great tournament in June”.

John Brown, Owner and Chief Executive of Ringside, Inc. stated “The City of Augusta has become the home for this outstanding junior tournament and we are glad that Ringside can lend a hand. Tom Moraetes and Tom Beck have made this one of the premier tournaments of the year. This tournament has brought in over 200 athletes, coaches, officials and family members each of the past six years resulting in an economic impact of over $200,000 each year.”

The tournament is open to boys and girls age’s 9 through 16.

Competition will take place at 7:00 p.m. each day and tickets will be available at the door. All pre-registration is being handled by Ringside Inc. -1-877-4boxing. In addition, Ringside Inc will be making the applications available from their web site at ringside.com in the near future. On site registration, weigh-ins and physicals will be held at the Clarion Suites Inn of Augusta on Wednesday, June 24th from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
