Ava Knight: A Best Kept Secret in Women’s Boxing!
August 20, 2008

(AUG 20) Ava Knight of Chico, California, dons a 4-0-2 (2KO), and is looking forward for more to come in the sport in her boxing career. WBAN had a chance to talk with Knight this week, and get some insight into how she is feeling thus far about fighting as a pro.

Inevitably when Knight has gone into a fight against a tough opponent, boxing fans will tell WBAN, that Knight will surprise her opponent(s) ---- and they have not been wrong so far with this Best Kept Secret.

A classic example was when Knight was faced against highly ranked boxer, Elena “Baby Doll” Reid, who came into the ring with a 19-4-5 record, against the then 3-0-0 Knight. The fight ended in a draw! In Knight’s last fight, she fought Noriko Kariya, 9-2-0 (1KO), stopping Kariya in the fifth round.

Knight is definitely a boxer for boxing fans to keep their eye on.But---with that said, Knight told WBAN about her own frustrations in the sport.

Knight told WBAN, “I have been trying to get fights and it seems that I only come to mind when people start getting desperate when other fighters don't show up or can't fight for any other reason. I would like to be recognized as a better fighter than just a replacement. I want to fight someone and be set up for it, and I am also ready to challenge some of the champions in the 110lb and 112lb weight classes and others that are just as good. I feel that I can be a top contender for anybody and won't be an easy win.”

Knight expressed her thoughts that she knows that she is “still a nobody”, but that she is not interested in padding her record.

Knight may be unknown to others in the sport---but we see a bright future for her. In a short time, she has already  climbed up the WBAN ranks to #7 as a flyweight.

Knight added, “I want to fight the best and be known for being one of the many great female boxers. There are a few that I know I am not ready for, but with six fights I have, I feel that I am ready for most. I do not want to disrespect anyone or call anyone out, I just want everyone to know that they will probably see me down the road.”
