Latest Updates:
European Union Championships

By Bernard O'Neil
August 7, 2008

(AUG 7) Katie Taylor recorded one of her most impressive victories this year after stopping Sandra Kruk in the semi finals of the European Union Championships in Liverpool tonight.

Taylor forced Kruk into two standing counts before the Polish southpaws corner threw in the towel 45 seconds into round one.

The 21 year old World and European lightweight champion will now meet Cindy Orain of France in Saturdays
60Kg final at the Greenpark Sports Arena on Merseyside.

Taylor, who is now guarenteed at least a silver medal, beat Orain twice last year, recording inside the distance wins at the Witch Cup in Hungary, and the Ahmet Cup in Turkey.

Commentating on this evenings win, Irish team manager Anja Norman was full of praise for the World number one.

She said: "She has stepped up another gear out here and it was a fantastic win.She is punching so fast and with so much power it's unbelievable and when she sees the chance to move in for an early win she definitely does not hold back."

Friday is a rest day at the Championships.
