Salandy Regains Her World Record
By Boxu Potts
March 31, 2008

(MAR 31) Jizelle Salandy, who is the first person in the world of boxing to set a world record by winning six belts in one fight, has regained her world record from Natascha Ragosina, who took the record from Salandy two weeks ago by winning seven belts in one fight. Within the space of two weeks after losing the world record, Salandy was able to retake the record by winning eight belts in one fight, which are the WBC, WBA, WBE, WIBA, IWBF, GBU, WIBF and UBC.

Salandy who went into the fight with a record of 15-0 handed the first defeat to Karolina Lukasik, whose record now stands at 9-1. Salandy won a 10-round unanimous decision.

After the fight Salandy said Lukasik has no power, she punches like a dolly. The fight plan was to box Lukasik, play with her, frustrate her and make her pay. Trainer Hector Roca told Salandy that Lukasik is a very mechanical and one dimension fighter who cannot fight going back, so he advised his fighter to box in a way to win the fight without engaging in a slug fist. Rocca said, sometimes a fighter has to fight these type of fights because at the end of the day winning is what matters.

All three judges William Boodhoo (Canada), George St. Aude (Trinidad and Tobago) and Octavio Rodriguez (Panama) scored the fight 97-94, 97-94, 97-94, all for Salandy.

Lukasik's team lodged a protest to the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Board of Control saying they were dissatisfied with the results. [WBAN has requested the video footage of the bout].

The show was one of the best boxing event promoted in Trinidad and Tobago, which was promoted by Salandy's new promoter, Mr. Harry Ragoonanan, who made his debut in the boxing arena by promoting a record breaking event.

The six bouts event saw:
Miguel Antoine won by dec. over Leon Dover (Junior Welter) - 6 rd
Shawn Cox TKO Leon Gilkes 3 of 6 rds (Cruiser )
Oscar Chacin won unanimous dec. over Orlan Rogers  - 6 rds
Sean Corbin TKO Tomas Orozco 7 of 12rds  - WBE World Title
Kevin Placide won by disqualification in the 6th rounds over Denny Dalton (Junior Middle) - WBC Cabofe Title and WBE World Title
