Daniels surges to a second straight State Championships title
By Johnny “Sarg” Hernandez at ringside
November 16, 2007

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Palm Bay, FL Light Middleweight hot prospect, Tia “TNT” Daniels impressively scored a one-sided four round unanimous decision over rough-tough, #3 nationally ranked, Miranda Whitley by a score of 5-0, to win her second consecutive state title.

Miranda, who defeated the #4, nationally ranked, Amelia Newton on Saturday, simply couldn't match the speed and the power of Daniels who employed effective straight left hands and boxed beautifully from the outside to keep Miranda at the end of her jab.

With the action going back and forth for the first few rounds, the fight appeared to be there for the taking for whoever wanted to step it up. Daniels would dig down to the body when given the opportunity, and methodically closed the gap using her jab to score points, while Miranda who appeared to be completely gassed used excessive holding to last the 4th round.

"I think Miranda underestimated the slick southpaw, Miranda started looking for the knockout a little too early,” the size difference was huge because she outweighed Daniels by 10lbs., that's why Daniels had to use her speed and quickness.

Early in the first round, Daniels landed a double jab that snapped Miranda’s head back. Miranda landed several body shots, and a straight right hand, but did not seem to hurt or slow down Daniels. Daniels continued setting the pace; throwing double and triple jabs through Miranda’s lackluster defense.

After a fast-paced first round, Miranda started throwing wide shots to the body, which had absolutely no effect on Tia “TNT” Daniels.

As soon as the round began, Daniels landed her signature punch, straight left to the body and later in the round, two hooks over the top that had Miranda back pedaling. Miranda returned with a quick flurry and started to hold. Miranda landed a right to the head and another to the body. Daniels came back well with a five piece combination that had the crowd on their feet towards the end of the round.

In the second round, Daniels took control of the bout landing hard body shots and straight left. Miranda landed a hard right at the end of the round. Another straight left by Daniels had Miranda backing up. Daniels landed a perfect left upper cut to the chin that seemed to hurt Miranda.

In the third, Miranda took a slight lead lending two overhand rights to the top of the head. Daniels returned fire and landed a right hook as they were separated from a clinch. Daniels began to rip three-four punch combos - a real work of art.
In the forth round, Daniels pressed just like her trainer had asked and landed several hard right upper cuts and three straight lefts which seemed to take effect on the overmatched Miranda. Daniels showed impressive speed and timing which repeatedly penetrated through Miranda’s guard. Miranda was game throughout, clinching and holding after each flurry in the final round of the fight but it appeared to be too little too late. Miranda was much bigger and yet, Daniels came through,” said legendary trainer, Johnny Hernandez, Sr.

Daniels possesses attributes that are beyond her peers. She a master in placing her punches where they have the most effect. Daniels is on the verge of mega-stardom in 2008.
