Dakota Stone's performance on the "Pro Sieben Fight Night" bill in Cologne on Friday came in for scathing treatment yesterday from sections of the German media– notably the tabloid Das Bild. Alongside a picture – derived, presumably, from her Penthouse shoot – of the Russian's naked derrière (which, we read, even she finds 'particularly sexy'), bawled the headline: "Steam-hammer 'Nacktascha' beats the living daylights out of Dakota."

"There's no stopping 'Nacktascha',"  the article continued.  (It isn't that they can't spell 'Natascha', as you're about to discover; it's just that 'nackt' means 'nude' in German). "Natascha Ragosina (31) gave Dakota Stone (38) a real drubbing in Cologne, winning convincingly by unanimous decision."

Das Bild wasn't alone in characterizing the fight as a whitewash. "WBA/WIBF/GBU female super middleweight champion Natascha Ragosina (14-0) dished out a boxing lesson to tough Dakota Stone (8-6-5),"  begins the (brief) report on the Universum site. "Ragosina dominated every minute of the ten round bout and won 99-91, 98-93 and 100-90."

The fact that the American took the fight at short notice, which was mentioned in the Pro Sieben TV commentary, seems to have been forgotten overnight; though Thomas Wischnewski of SES did note that "despite Dakota Stone's lack of fitness being evident as early as the fifth round, the world champion failed to win inside the distance."

Wischnewski refrained from adding "though not for want of trying" – and with good reason: as Pro Sieben's experienced commentator Matthias Preuß pointed out, Ragosina had Stone hurt on several occasions, and held back, when she could have finished her off. Furthermore, she failed throughout to get any real weight behind her shots, as Preuß, again, pointed out. Her technique is badly flawed; she throws her right hand, on occasion, as though it were a ping-pong ball, leading with the elbow like a plasterer using a trowel. Unless something is done about this, if and when she does get a unification fight with the WBC champion, rather than eating Laila Ali "for dessert", as she fondly envisions, she'll get that 'particularly sexy' butt of hers kicked all the way back to Leningrad!

"Sometimes boxing is brutal and bloody," Das Bild  warned its readers on Tuesday. "And sometimes it's dead sexy. "

Or it's neither. Or it's both. Both, they must have felt, on Friday, for the next day we read:  "The beautiful Russian did full justice to her nom de guerre. In Russia, they call her 'The Steam-Hammer'. But we call her 'Nacktascha'."

And so they do! Or did last week. (Nine times, I made it, in two days … )
