Rakoczy and Moreno both win by Decision!
May 18, 2007

(MAY 18) Last night at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, in Lemoore, California, with a sold-out crowd of 1,450 in the main event, Carina Moreno, 104.5, defeated Japan’s Nanako Kikuchi, 104.5, by a unanimous decision, and becoming the new WBC strawweight world champion in an action-packed 10-rounder.

According to one ringside observer, they told WBAN, “Kikuchi is a warrior. She just kept coming forward and took a tremendous amount of punches from all angles, but she kept pressing the fight. Carina was just too sharp, and clearly won the rounds but it was obvious from the onset that Kikuchi was not going to leave the ring until all 10 rounds were completed. They went non-stop for 10 rounds and had the crowd on their feet.”

In another women’s match, Jessica Rakoczy, 136, fought Terri Blair, 133.5, in an eight round rematch. Rakoczy won by unanimous decision. With Rakoczy and Blair’s respective styles, this made a very entertaining fight. The judges had the bout scored, 80-72, 80-72 and 80-71.

Christian Printup and the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino featured some excellent women’s bouts on their card last night, and they continue to support the sport by having women’s boxing on their cards.
