(APR 15) Tomorrow
night at the coliseo Teo Cruz, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic,
and promoted by Francisco Díaz, in the main event, super flyweight
Ana Maria Torres of Mexico, will be fighting Dahianna Santana, 20
years old, in a 10-round title bout for the WBC.
When Santana is not
boxing, she is a student of industrial Psychology at the Universidad
Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD).
According to Hoy.com.do Santana’s record is 13-2-0 (5KO), having won
six fights in a row, since losing to Graf, and was voted “Boxer of
the Year” in the DR.
This is the first
women's world title fight ever in the DR. They're expecting around
6,500. Santana says: she's dedicating this fight to all the women of
the Dominican Republic.
Santana said in the
local news media, that she is taller and she thinks she is faster,
and more skillful than Torres (though she has never seen Torres
fight).
It has been
reported that if Santana wins, the contract stipulates for a return
on a Mexican soil. Torres has also promised Santana a return (also
in Mexico) if she wins.
According to the Mexican press, Torres is ‘certain’ that she is
going to knock Santana out. Her plan is to stay close to Santana so
she cannot use her height and work the body. She paraphrased the old
‘kill the body and the head will fall’ line.
There are two women’s bouts on the undercard. In one bout, Evelina
Díaz Guzmán will face Gardy Peña. Also, according to www.listin,
17-year old Katy Penélope “La Super Baby” Hernández will also be
making her debut. According to the promoter, Francisco Díaz, she
has a complete mastery of boxing technique and a devastating punch.
