(FEB 3) Tonight in Johannesburg, South
Africa, Laila Ali stopped Gwendolyn O’Neil in the first 56 seconds
of the first round. This was a rematch for the two. In their first
encounter, Ali stopped O’Neil in the third round.
Laila Ali was quoted in an [AP] article
that she “apologized” to boxing fans including former South African
President Nelson Mandela, for the brevity of the fight. She also
said, "I would have liked to have shown the fans a few more rounds,
But, hey, I'm happy with the KO."
