"Code Red" Plans to Return to Ring
Source: Press Release
October 9, 2006

(OCT 9) Cristy "Code Red" Nickel has announced her return to the ring. After her St. Patrick's Day fight in Albany, NY, Cristy temporarily stepped down from fighting to film MTV's hit reality show "MADE" where she single-handedly turned a lazy high school quitter into a hard-hitting boxer in just 6 weeks. The show continues to bring top ratings in over 60 countries.

The show yielded Cristy a job training high-end clients at New York City's best gym, "Trinity Boxing Club" (trinityboxing.com) "Once I got settled into Manhattan life and my new job, the itch came back to fight," states Cristy.

In between training clients and doing athletic modeling, Cristy has found the time to get back into fighting condition. But when it came to finding sparring partners, she ran into some trouble. "I mean, come on," she says, "My clients are wealthily stock-brokers, attorneys and CEO's of America's top companies. It's not like I can grab one of them and say 'Do you mind hopping in the ring and going a few rounds with me?'" So she found some sparring at the well-known Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn. Cristy's main focus now is breaking this losing streak. "I went from winning my first 7 fights to losing my last 4--boom, boom, boom, just like that!" Cristy explains. "Talk about devastation! I was training with Tom Moraetes but I was still losing to B-level fighters--they weren't even great fighters!. There was a lot going on in my life and in my head. I was divorcing my husband, moving, turning 30, you know...when someone steps in the ring and their head is messed up or their heart is hurting, your game is thrown off."

But Cristy believes that now things feel right. She's happy with her progress in training and she feels that she still has a lot to contribute to the sport.

Cristy is scheduled to fight on Nov 3rd at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan, "IF," she says, "we can find an opponent!"

If you are interested in fighting Cristy at 147-150 LBS, email her at cristylnickel@msn.com. "But please," Cristy concludes, "If you're an undefeated, top-ranked fighter, please don't call. I'm not ready for you just yet. I'm not interested in eating my meals through a tube for the next 3 months while a nurse adjusts my foot rest on my wheelchair. Thanks but no thanks. I'll call you when I get the ring-rust off."
