(OCT 28) Don’t let the
3-0 record fool you. Jeannine Garside has the training in AND out of the
ring to battle Lisa "Bad News" Brown on November 18 on the "A Ring of
Their Own" World Title Wave. Her 40-5 amateur record is backed by being
the protégé of trainer and former world champion Margaret Sidorofff.
Garside began boxing after seeing Christy Martin fight on the famous
Mike Tyson undercard. After the Martin bout, Jeanine began her amateur
boxing career in British Columbia, but soon moved to Windsor, Ontario
after watching the Woman’s Canadian National team, and witnessing
Margaret Sidoroff in training action. Once in Windsor Ontario, Jeannine
began boxing at the Border city Boxing Club and gained a spot on the
Canadian National Team.
Margaret has trained Jeannine since 2001, and is excited about the
November 18 fight and what Jeannine will bring to Edmonton.
"She’s aggressive, has no care about who she’s in there with or what’s
going on. It doesn’t matter if it’s her mother in the ring, she’s gonna
whip their ass. She only knows one speed and that’s kill. And she’s got
the heart of a lion. Jeanine’s the hardest hitter of anybody her size
I’ve ever seen." And Margaret is quite familiar with opponent Lisa "Bad
News" Brown from her own boxing days. "This fight will be a WAR," she
predicts. "Both their chins will be tested in this fight, both are
strong fighters. And being south paws will make it interesting. Both
have excellent backgrounds. It will be a great boxing match."
From her own experience, Margaret is able to offer Jeanine valuable
advice as someone who’s "been there, done that."
I’ve told Jeannine, yes, you’ve only had 3 fights, BUT because of your
amateur background it’s hard to get fights, so we’ve got to step it up.
And that’s what we’re planning on."
One thing fighter and trainer will have in common is Margaret’s fourth
fight, in which she captured the WIBC super flyweight title, was also
her first title fight, as is Jeanine’s. Margaret had only 1 ½ rounds in
her career prior to the fight, and Jeanine has 5 rounds experience
professionally as she faces Lisa Brown. The battle with Brown is
scheduled for 10 rounds.
World Title Wave will take place November 18 at the Shaw Conference
Center in Edmonton and will be available live on pay per view in Canada
and world wide via broad band distribution.
